Painful SEO Mistake that I made
To improve our onpage SEO (Search Engine Optimization), meta keywords and meta description are important factor to include on our webpages or blog post. Onpage SEO is easy to implement and it is more predictable by us compared to offpage SEO like backlinks or anchor texts.
Everyone who are doing site optimization, onpage SEO is the 1st step to do, including me.
While I first started setting up this blog, I downloaded and activated a few SEO wordpress plugin on my blog, they are:
The reason that I activated a few plugins was to test and try the various plugin and see how they works. Then, when I was updating the All the New SEO Pack, I realized I made a big mistake and I paid a big price for it.
The mistake that I made: I activated all of them and I did not deactivated the plugin that I did not want after that.
Know what happened? I have multiple entry of Meta-Keywords tag for each post and also the meta-description. At first, I want to have meta-keywords such that it helped me to optimize my post for search engine. It turned out that I had too many repeated keywords tag which can appear as a keyword stuffing to the search engine.
So, lesson learn here: Please make sure you activated only one single SEO wordpress plugin instead of multiple SEO wordpress plugin. It is ok to try and test various plugin, just make sure you do not turn on similar or repeated plugin.
I did not know what will happen to my search engine result. I did have some success over the past 2 months on getting traffic from Google, but i did not see much traffic from Yahoo or MSN, I was wondering what went wrong for a long time, because it should be easier to rank and optimize for Yahoo or MSN. Yahoo and MSN uses Meta information and keyword density result more compared to Google. I just hope that Yahoo or MSN do not penalize my blog or blacklist my blog from making this mistake. It is indeed a painful mistake that I made.
