Smartphone was formally targeted for business users but this has changed recently. There are more and more smarts phone are targeted fro consumer users now. iPhone App Market Worth $2.4 Billion
According to AdMob, a leading mobile advertising startup,
iPhone Apps worth $200 million are sold every month or about $2.4 billion a year on the iPhone App Store.
AdMob has also conducted survey from more than 1000 users and they have concluded that Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users download more App compared to Android users. AdMob concludes that since there are approximately 45 million devices that run iPhone OS, iPhone Apps worth $200 million are sold every month or about $2.4 billion a year on the iPhone App Store. In comparison, the Android market is estimated at approximately $60 million per year.
This conclusion may sound like Mobile App has a potential in the iPhone market. However, I have another view to this conclusion.
Android users is currently still small, the Android app availability is also much smaller compared to iTune store. Therefore, this translate to a smaller Android market of $60 million per year. These are all conclusion based on current condition, that does not mean that Android market will remain this small forever. Android market is also growing and therefore, the market size will definitely growing as well and Android can be a key competitor to iPhone.
