If you like to earn money online through selling advertisement space, you must improve your Alexa ranking. Alexa ranking is one important traffic indicator. Many publisher uses Alexa ranking to estimate the visitor volume and from there they will estimate the cost per click or cost of impression on the ads. One of the mistake that I made when first setting up this blog is not to prepare for Alexa ranking, then it makes harder to give the publisher due to the low rating that I have.

What is the Alexa Rank?
The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis.
The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users)
Alexa Ranking is Not Accurate?
Well, I am sure you have heard people saying that Alexa ranking is accurate, is it true? Yes, it is true that there is bias in using Alexa ranking. The reason being Alexa can only calculate your traffic volume only if you have included the Alexa tracker on your website. That helps Alexa to track your traffic volume. If you do not have the Alexa tracker, Alexa can still add the traffic count if you visitor has Alexa toolbar installed on their browser.
On the internet, let’s face a fact, Alexa toolbar is not that popular and not many people will install Alexa toolbar. Only webmaster or more computer savvy people will install Alexa toolbar for SEO or traffic purposes. Normal web surfer will not bother to install Alexa toolbar. But if you have the Alexa tracker on every pages of your website. Alexa will be able to count the traffic volume more reliably.

I mentioned earlier that Alexa ranking has a bias. Why is that so, the reason is simple if you understand how Alexa tracks traffic as explained in the earlier paragraph. Alexa ranking tends to track the search volume for website which is more tech savvy people, so, it compares the websites among those with Alexa tracker. If I have a 1 millions visitors a day but I do not have Alexa tracker on my site, you can see a lousy alexa tracking still.
Now, even though Alexa is bias is not totally accurate, it is still the favourite indicator among ads publisher. If you like you sell ads space, the publisher still likes to know your Alexa ranking despite its biaseness.
Now, this comes to marketing, Alexa ranking is simple one of the marketing trick you must use to boost your website or blog value…

You can use a Alexa Redirect http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=kpebiz.com whenever you are placing a link back to your website. That is another way for Alexa to track the data. However, take note that you do not want to have all you backlinks using the re-direct, then you won’t have backlinks to your own page and that hurts your SEO value. You need to have a balance if you are using this method. Make sure you have a good mix of normal backlinks, deeplinks and also some Alexa redirect links.
Secret 3 of Alexa Ranking Improvement: Any Other Methods
Well, I have read many people telling you that to write a review, place a redirect link, buy backlinks on exactseek, digg, stumble. Well, you and sit in front of your PC blogging and posting all day, but how do you inform the others that you have new content on your blog.
There are a few method to inform others that you have new content posted.

StumbleUpon Gets You Immediate Traffic in 48 Hours!
Friday, October 5th, 2007I posted a StumbleUpon Traffic Guide & Resource 2 days ago. I read through most of the articles that I posted in the resource guide and I also gave a final summary on how to get started with stumbleupon:
So, stumble a few sites every day, mix some video and photos in between. Also, not to forget thumb up your own blog post in between such that you can start pulling traffic to your own site!
Now, I check my Google Analytics result and look at what I have:
The traffic trend shot up in 48 hours after I implemented the stumbleupon strategy, you read and thumb up a few sites every day, mix with video and photo and of course, stumble your own post as well! You can see this amazing result happening.
Where doest the traffic come from?
When I looked further on my analytics result, the refering sites account for 58.55% and stumbleupon brought in almost 20% of my visitors. That’s pretty cool, isn’t it? Imagine, that’s just 2 days of work and you can see result in 48 hours.
Bounce rate 43.35% for the last 4 days, I would say that’s not too bad. I will need to improve them further such that I can retain more reader on my blog.
