RSS Feed : Is it Relevant?

I read a post today on ReadWriteWeb mentioning that RSS readers continue to decline. A question was being asked: Do people still use them and is there still a viable market for them?

RSS Is A Good Resource

Personally, I do keep track of RSS daily using Google reader. I like RSS as it simplies the task for me to keep track on the latest news and information from many websites or blog.

There are many websites that I follow daily. Using the RSS reader helps me to remove the repetitive tasks to enter website address into the URL bar and browse the website one by one. I simply log into the Google reader and all the latest news and posts are being synchonized and update at a same place.

I categorize my feed and I can immediately see the latest news and update across many different category.

Very importantly, I can then participate to leave comments on some interesting post to generate one way link back to my site and also to source for ideas on what to write on my blog.

In short, RSS is still relevant and it is a good resource to me to both to generate links and to generate new ideas for my content.

Do you use RSS reader? If you are not, I suggest you should start looking at it now!

Guess what is the hottest technology news today? Google has just announced that they will launch Push Mail to Mobile devices from your Gmail account. Isn’t that a great news for all Gmail users out there, including me!

Having a push mail on Gmail is definitely a great deal for many users and you can definitely look forward to improve your customer service by receiving notification when your new email arrives. The only drawback that you need to be prepared is enabling push mail on your mobile devices may shorten your battery life. But looking at the improve customer service with possibility to improve your sales, that is still a worthwhile investment to take.

Android Donut SDK 1.6

Google released earlier this evening the SDK for Android 1.6, what most people like to call the Donut release.

Looking at the new features Android offers now plus more smartphone will be launched end of this year on this Android OS. Android definitely offers a good market potential to create some app. This is definitely an interesting business idea to look into.

iPhone OS Games Statistics

Apple held a big major event on Wednesday and Apple disclosed some of its new products in the event. You can watch the event video to understand what they said.  One key annoucement you can see in this event is Apple is diving into Gaming industry using its iPod Touch or iPhone OS.

You can see photo above that Apple is comparing its iPhone OS with Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. PSP and Nintendo has always be very successful in the gaming market. In this event, Apple apparently is trying to compare itself with these two gaming veterans and claimed that Apple iPhone OS is able to deliver more gaming titles compared to the other two.

It also said that titles offered by Sony PSP and Nintendo are expensive and it would not be affordable for a school kids to buy. The market segment looks to be the teenagers and the kids now. So, Apple pricing strategy is making affordable for all kids to purchase.

What Implication for Us?

Well, why am I writing this… As one of the category that I like to write about is Simple Idea. I see this as an interesting business idea to look into as iPhone OS is gaining more and more market share.

If you are a gaming developer, you can create some game on iPhone OS and sell.
If you are NOT a gaming developer, you can now start thinking of creating an iPhone OS app as an complimentary strategy to expand your target market into kids and teenagers.

There are more and more kids or teenagers are now socializing on the internet. I just read an article on the newspaper that teenage sex is increasing partly due to proliferation of internet. Therefore, it might be a good idea on how you can monitor your kids or teenage boys or girls using Facebook / Twitter.

Even though I am impressed that people are reacting fast to offer this kind of service. The only conclusion that I can make it that Facebook is again gaining ground and therefore there is a market out there that people are willing to pay for adding friends on Facebook.

Although Facebook has not taken any actions on this, but I think it is just a matter sooner or later…

If you ask me, am I going to pay for this service?

For me, being an online marketers, I would not pay for this kind of service. This is just a number game, you can use this service to increase your friends count, but it is useless friends. It won’t bring you any revenue increase or sale conversion as many of these “Friends” are either spam, fake or inactive accounts. It is better you focus on getting genuine friends are really interested in your product or your service, they will be able to bring you more quality friends in the long run.
